Insurance-Covered Birth & Postpartum Packages

Many California families qualify for doula care at no out-of-pocket cost through Medi-Cal and Medi-Cal Managed Care plans. This includes both labor and birth support as well as in-home postpartum care. Covered services may include one prenatal planning visit, continuous labor support, multiple postpartum visits in your home, newborn care guidance, lactation support, emotional support, and help with feeding, sleeping, and daily recovery.

Families in Riverside County, Temecula, Murrieta, the Inland Empire, and San Diego can access these insurance-covered doula services as part of their birth and postpartum plan. Our goal is to make your transition into parenthood smoother, supported, and deeply cared for — without worrying about the financial burden.

  • A birth doula provides continuous emotional, physical, and informational support during pregnancy, labor, and birth. At SoCal Doulas, your doula helps you prepare for birth, understand your options, create a birth plan, and feel confident in your choices. During labor, your doula offers hands-on comfort measures such as positioning, massage, counter-pressure, breathing support, and guidance for partners so they feel included and helpful. Your doula remains by your side throughout the entire birth experience, helping you navigate the process, communicate with your care team, and feel supported every step of the way whether you’re birthing in a hospital, at home, or in a birth center.

  • A daytime postpartum doula provides hands-on support for families after birth. This can include newborn care, feeding support, light household help, meal prep, and emotional guidance. The goal is to make your recovery smoother and help you feel confident as you adjust to life with your baby.

  • A postpartum planning class helps you prepare for what life will look like after baby arrives. Instead of focusing only on labor and birth, we guide you through the fourth trimester and everything that supports a smoother recovery. During this class, we talk about feeding, sleep, newborn care, physical healing, emotional changes, support roles for partners and family, meal planning, home setup, and realistic expectations for the early weeks. We also cover mental health, community resources, pumping and bottle options, and how to organize help so you are not overwhelmed once baby is home.

At SoCal Doulas, families leave with a customized written postpartum plan that outlines who does what, how to get rest, how feeding will be supported, and what care systems need to be in place. Our goal is to help you feel confident, resourced, and supported—not blindsided—during the fourth trimester.

  • Childbirth education helps you understand what to expect during labor, birth, and the immediate postpartum period so you can make informed decisions and feel confident as you welcome your baby. At SoCal Doulas, our classes cover the full birth process—from the stages of labor, comfort measures, and coping strategies, to medical options, interventions, hospital routines, and advocacy skills. We also include partner support techniques, positioning for labor, pain management options, what to pack for birth, and how to prepare for those first hours with your newborn. Our goal is to replace fear with understanding and help you enter your birth experience feeling prepared, supported, and empowered—no matter where or how you plan to give birth.

  • • Feeding (breast, bottle, pumping, paced feeding)
    • Diapering and bathing
    • Safe sleep setup and sleep expectations
    • Soothing and calming techniques
    • Normal newborn behavior cues
    • Partner roles and support
    • Infant health basics and when to call for help

  • A postpartum nutrition and meal prep class teaches families how to support healing, digestion, lactation, and energy levels through intentional food during the fourth trimester. Instead of guessing what to eat after birth, we walk you through what the postpartum body needs, how to plan realistic meals, and how to prepare nutrient-dense foods that are easy to eat while caring for a newborn.

    This class typically includes:
    • Nutritional needs during the fourth trimester
    • Foods that support healing and recovery
    • Foods that support digestion and reduce inflammation
    • Hydration and lactation-supporting beverages
    • Meal planning for the first 2–6 weeks after birth
    • Simple postpartum-friendly recipes
    • Freezer meal strategies + batch cooking
    • Snack + one-hand food ideas for newborn days
    • Pantry + shopping lists for postpartum recovery
    • Partner + family support roles in meal preparation

Families leave with a customized written meal plan and a realistic approach to feeding themselves during postpartum without overwhelm.

  • Yes. Everything listed here is covered under your doula insurance benefits, including birth doula support, postpartum care, newborn care guidance, childbirth education, postpartum planning, and nutritional support. Most families pay nothing out of pocket.

We currently accept Medi-Cal, IEHP, Kaiser Permanente, Health Net, and Community Health Group, and we take care of the insurance verification and billing process for you.

Overnight Postpartum Care

Nighttime with a newborn can be beautiful but also exhausting. Our Overnight Postpartum Doulas and Newborn Care Specialists are here to make those long nights easier, offering calm, professional support while you rest and recover.

Your doula or care specialist will arrive in the evening and stay through the night, typically for 8–12 hours. During this time, we lovingly tend to your baby’s needs feeding, changing, and soothing while you enjoy uninterrupted rest. We also help establish gentle, age-appropriate sleep rhythms to support healthy habits for both baby and parents.

At SoCal Doulas, our goal is more than helping you get a good night’s sleep it’s empowering you to feel confident, prepared, and supported throughout the postpartum journey. We offer education and hands-on guidance in newborn care, feeding (breast, bottle, or pumping), and soothing techniques.

We’re also happy to share practical tips for nursery setup, organization, and home routines that make life with a newborn smoother and more peaceful. With SoCal Doulas by your side, you can rest easy knowing your baby is cared for with expertise and heart.

  • Your overnight doula or newborn care specialist provides professional, nurturing support while you rest. They handle nighttime feedings, diaper changes, and soothing so you can get restorative sleep. Their goal is to help you recover physically and emotionally while ensuring your baby is cared for with expertise and love.

  • Overnight care typically lasts 8, 10, or 12 hours, depending on your family’s needs. Your doula or specialist will arrive in the evening and remain through the night, allowing you uninterrupted rest.

  • That depends on your setup and comfort level. Some families have the doula care for the baby in a nearby nursery or living space, while others prefer room-sharing. We adapt to your preferences to ensure everyone feels comfortable and rested.

  • Absolutely. If you’re breastfeeding, your doula can bring your baby to you for feeds, assist with latching, and handle burping, diapering, and soothing afterward so you can return to sleep quickly. For families using bottles or expressed milk, your doula can manage feedings independently while you rest.

  • Both provide expert newborn and family support. A Postpartum Doula focuses on the whole family’s well-being emotional recovery, education, and practical help while a Newborn Care Specialist concentrates more specifically on newborn sleep, feeding, and routines. At SoCal Doulas, both roles overlap beautifully to offer comprehensive, heart-centered care.

  • Yes. Our doulas and newborn care specialists gently guide families toward healthy sleep rhythms appropriate for your baby’s age and temperament. We never “sleep train”instead, we focus on responsive care that supports both baby’s development and your family’s rest.

  • IYes, many insurance plans do cover postpartum doula and newborn care services, but coverage varies depending on your specific provider and policy. The best way to find out what your plan includes is to complete our Insurance Verification Form before your consultation. Once we receive it, our team will review your benefits and let you know exactly what’s covered and what steps to take next.tem description
